Unique Christmas Wine Reindeer Labels from Eola Hills Winery

Prancer’s Private Reserve -- Blush Wine

Twas the night before crush
And all through the cellar,
Not a creature was stirring
‘Cept the winemaking fellar.
Then Prancer appeared and tasted the juice
He knew ‘t would be perfect with holiday goose.
He winked at the winemaker, flew into the night.
A Private Reserve would simply delight!

(Rickreall, OR): Tom Huggins, Founder and President of Oregon’s Eola Wine Cellars had quite a bit of fun writing the clever Christmas poems that accompany six wines in his Reindeer Label Series. For your own Christmas cheer, you can read them for yourself at www.eolahillswinery.com.

“About ten years ago we got into the Christmas spirit and thought our customers might enjoy a line of wines just for the season. We’ve received such a great response we kept adding to the reindeer herd.” Exclaimed Huggins with a Ho Ho Ho. This year they’ve added Comet’s Cuvee to the series.

Rudolph’s Red -- Pinot Noir

History tells us of that famous flight
When Rudolph’s nose lit up the night.
But down in the cellar, Santa was thinking
“What special wine would people be drinking?”
The elves and the reindeer were gathered around
In hopes that a holiday wine would be found.
Then Rudy stepped forward, the place was a hush
“Let’s bottle a red, we’ve already got a blush.”
“You’re right,” Santa exclaimed, “Red wine we can do!
Thanks, dear Rudy, we’ll name it for you.”
So Rudolph’s red is the newest edition
Just in time for this Christmas tradition.

It would seem that their offering is quite unique with few other wineries making a custom series of this kind. Eola’s wines are from prime Oregon wine country, winning numerous awards and praises such as Wine & Spirits Magazine naming Eola Hills as “One of the Top-20 U.S. producers of wines of great value.”

Comet’s Cuvee -- Sparkling Wine - not available at this time.

The winemaker sat puzzled on the cellar floor,
Pondering how to top what he’d done before.
First, there was Prancer, then Blitzen and Rudy,
Blending a fourth would be his holiday duty.
Then in came Comet, and from what he did say,
Came a Yuletide sparkler, called Comet’s Cuvee.

Eola Hills features gourmet Sunday brunches and a friendly tasting room as part of the Oregon Wine Tour experience. Their award winning red and white wines include Chardonnay, Merlot, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, White Zinfandel, Raspberry Framboise, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Marechal Foch, Port Wine, Lodi Zinfandel, Lodi Sangiovese and a line of dessert wines “second to none,” according to Brooks Tish, noted wine writer and critic.

Vixen’s Vino -- Chardonnay

Four Christmas’ have passed in the annals of time,
Since Eola Hills introduced it’s now famous Reindeer wines.
It was Prancer then Blitzen, and Rudolph was third,
Then came Comet, leaving just five in the herd.
Now a new Christmas approaches, and the sentiments grows
For a fifth in the line that everyone knows.
Done is the the Blush and the Blanc, a Sparkler and Pinot,
Let’s do Chardonnay this Season, and we’ll have Vixen’s Vino!

Cupid’s Cab -- Cabernet Sauvignon

It had been a late Season,
But the grapes had no equal,
Santa’s herd had good reason,
To wish for a Yule Sequel.
With Eola’s Winemaker, there’s always a way.
Let’s head to the Cellar, and make Cabernet.
To the Reindeer collection, we’re happy to add
this year’s Holiday rendition… Cupid’s Cab!

Blitzen’s Blanc -- Pacific Blanc
‘Twas the vintage following Prancer’s;
That beautiful blush, a party enhancer.
The snow was falling, the hour was near.
Empty bottles awaited holiday cheer.
The elves were pacing, the reindeer attending.
Down in the cellar ol’ Santa was blending.
He raised his glass and exclaimed with a sigh,
“It’s beautifully balanced and slightly off dry.”
“I have an encore as good as the past,
Load the sleigh! Perfection at last!”
A Blanc called Blizen’s, it’s flavor revealing
The answer to Christmas … truly appealing!

Gentle flavors of strawberries and cranberries with a light silky finish. Steve Anderson, our Head Winemaker, says that he thinks 2007 will be one of the best vintages he has worked with as of today! Try this Pinot Noir with Lamb, Pork, or Fish. In other words this wine will go with just about anything. One of my favorites is Spicy grilled sweet potatoes. This wine has good balance and can go with a wide variety of grilled or smoked foods such as pork or a roasted vegetable salad.
